let's dance put on your red shoes and dance the blues...

After many hours listening to iPods, ripped mp3's and youtube postings, we've chosen our essential reception songs...

Parents/BP Entrance: "Let's Groove Tonight" by Earth, Wind and Fire
Newlyweds Entrance: "Nothin' But A Good Time" by Poison
First Dance: "When You Say Nothing At All" by Ronan Keating
Father/Daughter: "I Loved Her First" by Heartland
Mother/Son: "Find Your Wings" by Mark Harris
Cake Cutting: "Everything" by Michael Buble
Last Dance: "(I've Had) The Time of My Life"

The first dance song was the toughest by far. Back when we started planning over eight months ago (wow, really?), feeling all girly and romantic, I wanted to choose one right away. In reality, I was a little anxious about this one little detail. FI and I had never had the occasion to dance together and, therefore, never had "our song" arise. He said we had time, didn't need to choose yet. I got the same line every time I raised the questions for the next several months. Eventually, FI asked me to choose one, reasoning that he would be happy with whatever song I liked.

Fast forward to two weeks ago when we were really getting down to the wire and needed to make a decision. I brought out my list of potentials, we each had a glass of wine and I played each song for him. I wanted him to have some input. You can guess what happened. Yup. He vetoed them all. every. last. one.

So, we went back to the beginning and searched, a lot. Last night we finally found the one that we both love. And, yes, we danced.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Try as they may, they could never define
What's being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

  1. My facebook status right now is "Picking the first dance song is the hardest part of wedding planning!" so I sympathize with you! I think you made a great choice. Our band needs to know our song choice ahead of time to learn it so we're really coming down to the wire to make a decision.
